European production model

In addition to all of the above, the Iberian almond also forms part of the world’s most stringent production model in terms of environmental sustainability, food safety and quality: the European model.

It therefore has to meet a number of extremely strict requirements in relation to agricultural practices and the use of plant protection products, among other aspects.

As far as food safety is concerned, the partners of SAB-Almendrave and CNCFS comply with the Food Safety Global Protocol, using a Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point (HACCP) system. This means that they have fully-equipped in-house laboratories that specialise in carrying out all types of analytics according to existing legislation, in order to guarantee that their range of products achieves the highest possible quality.

SAB-Almendrave also adheres to the Code of Conduct on Responsible Food Business and Marketing Practices, which is a key tool of the European Commission’s “From Farm to Fork” strategy. Within this framework, it encourages its members to implement sustainability actions and business practices with aspirational goals.

Finally, as part of its innovation efforts, this organisation is also a representative member of the Detection and Eradication of Bitter Almonds group. This project aims to develop technological systems that are capable of detecting and eliminating bitter almonds in sweet batches, without using any hazardous chemicals or generating any toxic waste.
