Our Project
As a product, the European almond is:
- Safe: in line with European standards.
- Healthy: with beneficial properties for consumers.
- Sustainable: protects the environment and quality of life in rural areas.
- High-quality: with characteristics that contribute to the circular economy.
European legislation ensures that our almonds meet the highest standards in the world as far as food safety, quality and, above all, environmental sustainability are concerned.
Approximately 70% of the almonds consumed in Europe come from the United States.
In Germany, around 65% of the imported almonds are from the United States, while 20% are Spanish (figures from the World Bank in 2021).
More than 50% of the imports in France come from Spain, but the United States and Australia still make up almost 30%.
For all these reasons, the Spanish SAB-Almendrave association and the Portuguese CNCFS (Centro Nacional de Competências dos Frutos Secos) have decided to implement a European Programme focused on sustainability in the Iberian almond production process.
The aim of the campaign is to raise awareness of the European almond, highlighting its sustainability. A further goal is to increase its demand and facilitate its expansion.
With this in mind, the campaign focuses on 4 European Union markets:
Spain
Portugal
Germany
France
The campaign is based on a 360º strategy that consists of an informative and a creative element. The first element aims to convey the differentiating characteristics of the European almond that set it apart from other almonds.
These characteristics include its ecological and social sustainability, its excellent water management, the important R&D investment made by producers to guarantee its quality and food safety, and its leadership as far as organic production is concerned.
With regard to creativity, a direct and powerful message has been used to highlight the important sustainability component.
Moreover, a seal has been created that will standardise the campaign in all media and countries, and will also serve to convey the values of the European almond at a single glance.
Finally, the star of our campaign (and a fabulous brand champion) is very knowledgeable about nuts and dried fruit. He is a friendly celebrity who is committed to the world of nature, is extremely active and healthy, and can convey better than anyone all the values with which the European almond is identified. He is of course… the Iberian squirrel.
